Lab Tests Q & A

What are lab tests?

Lab tests are in-house diagnostic services that allow your physicians to gain a better understanding of your health. They can use the results of your tests to diagnose illnesses, develop effective treatment plans, track the progress of an illness over time, or measure the effectiveness of a given treatment.

Many lab tests require a blood draw. During these tests, your provider finds an ample vein in your arm and draws blood from it using a needle or catheter. They analyze your blood sample in the lab for certain cells, pathogens, or substances.

Other lab tests utilize tissue or fluid samples from elsewhere in your body. The test might involve a urine sample, a saliva sample, or a tissue biopsy. Your provider tells you how the test works and what to expect from the results.

Which lab tests are available?

The team at A Plus Medical can provide a wide range of lab tests and services to gather information about your health and functioning. A few available lab tests are:

QuantiFERON-TB

QuantiFERON-TB is a blood test for tuberculosis, an airborne infectious disease. Positive results can indicate that you’re infected or that you’re a carrier.

Glucose testing

Glucose testing measures the amount of glucose, or sugar, in your blood. If you have diabetes, you’ll need the hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c) test once every 3-4 months.

Complete blood count (CBC)

CBC evaluates the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets circulating in your blood. The test can help diagnose many different infections and conditions.

Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)

CMP measures the following substances in your blood: glucose, calcium, total protein, sodium, albumin, liver enzymes, bilirubin, and kidney waste products.

When do I get the results of my lab tests?

The time it takes to get the results of your lab tests varies depending on the type of test you get. Many test results are available in as little as 24 hours, thanks to the on-site location of the lab at A Plus Medical.

As soon as your results are available, the team contacts you about them. They explain your results to you in detail and describe your prognosis. If your lab tests diagnose a new or worsening condition, the team develops a treatment strategy and may recommend further testing as you undergo treatment.
